The use of force

When President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emacipation Proclimation, this gave hope to the slaves. The slaves realized that if the North were to win the war, they would become free. By doing this, President Lincoln used a type of driving force within the slaves to aid in our countries success. The slaves already wanted to be free, but it was merely a hope. But seeing that the North offered freedom gave them a drive against the South. When General Sherman made his march to the sea, he used force. Sherman forced the people out of thier homes, land, and towns by burning it all to the ground. Although this was the main reason that the North won the war over the south. It was not legal. We used military force to win the war.

Can the use of Force preserve a nation? If we had used force would all of these issues our country has suffered never happened? When the South succeeded and left the Union it felt out of our controll. But we could have used military force to bring them back to the Union. Istead of waiting five years for the newly developped counrty to form, we could have invaded and forced them to rejoin. But using force would also be taking away freedoms that are promised in our costitution. Even though the south disobeyed the costitution we as the Nnorth are the example and cannot disobey the constitution. So by using force we turn into a Communism more than a democracy. Using force would work, but it would be against what our county is based on.

You make a good point, but at times force is necessary or a nation will fall apart, as you mentioned, the Civil War was won by force, and it brought the nation back together. So sometimes force is necessary, but maybe it should be avoided if possible.

I agree with your statement. Also a phrase that is often said is "the terms of war are different, and there are exceptions" so yes at times force is used. But continual force will change the form of government. Also the use of force is strongly depndent upon the situation. And decisions made during certain situations can be right decisions, even if the are technically wrong...

Yes, but sometimes that presence is necessary. During Reconstruction, if it weren't for the military presence there, the South might not have followed some of the laws set forth by the nation. Also, in most post war times, troop presence is required or the nation might revert to the state that caused the war in the first place.

And i agree. But i am saying that the country begins to dictate everything it turns into a communism. And the continual military force could be over used.
