After the civil war, there was a great time of reconstruction in which people were trying to rebuild not only the buildings that were destroyed but also the lives and families that were lost and damaged during the war. Since the south lost the war, there was much more for them to rebuild, physically and emotionally, however, they had fewer resources to do such a thing.
Using force, the two sections of our nation tore each other apart in order to run their government their way. This, however, backfired on both groups, destroying them. A nation run by force, whether it be political or military, is not a nation with a democracy, the claim of the u.s., but a dictatorship.
