Reconstruction

Reconstruction says it all in the name. The South needs to be rebuilt physically and economically. After the war, slaves were free and now were on their own. The 13, 14, and 15 amendments were passed. The 13th stated that slaves officially had freedom, the 14th gave them citizenship, and the 15th stated their rights, especially their right to vote. The South didn't agree with the blacks having rights to vote; therefore, they came of with the Black codes or the Jim Crow Laws. Which says that blacks must read something for them to be able to vote. With this the Southerners got what they wished, because most blacks couldn't read. With Johnson trying to bring back the South into the nation and enforcing the new amendments, the South was trying to limit the blacks rights.
For military and politicians to preserve the nation, the nation has to come together. For example, today the war in Iraq has caused many stresses between people. Bush and our military went there thinking they were going to preserve the nation, but how can we ever be happy if those who disagree keep fighting against the war. For the nation to be preserved by any military or politicians then the nation as to come together. The South didn't agree with the new laws; therefore, went against it and made Black Codes. By doing this they are going against the nation, not letting it be preserved. The military and politicians have power to preserve and help start our nation to better things, but if the nation doesn't agree nor go along with it they can't do much at all. They may do what's best, but the more people that disagree, the more problems will arise.

Yes, but does the use of this force help preserve a nation? That was the essential question, but I didn't see an answer. The closest I saw was saying that our government has the power.
