In our day and age, the process of picking and cleaning cotton is a very tedious and time consuming job. Not only do you get your fingers all cut up from picking the cotton, but you have to spend hours on end picking the seeds out of it. If it weren't for Mr. Eli Whitney and his invention of the cotton gin, I don't know where we'd be. Since he brought the gin into existence, we have been able to produce an amount of cotton ten fold of what we could before. Because of that, i don't need as many laborers to help me which means more wealth for me.
As a nation, this invention has helped our economy immensely. The production of cotton has soared, meeting demand and reducing the amount of imports needed from other countries. Also, it could possibly mean more money for the government through taxes, since there is more being produced, there is more to tax. Therefore funding the federal government.

How do you think you would feel if you were a slave back when the cotton gin was created? Would you be happy or would you be upset at the new invention?
I would be happy about it because i wouldnt have as much work to do, one way or another, the plantation owners would still need me to operate it, it would just be easier than hand cleaning it.
Except after reading my original post i just realized i contradicted myself in my view as far as what would happen with the slaves however, originally i was speaking from the owner's point of view and in my reply i was speaking in the slave's point of view
