Washington as president

Hello, my name is George Washington, the first president of these United states of America. After all of the battles i won, showing my integrity as a general, the citizens elected me as the president. Although the British may not like me, as a result of the revolution, the people of America do.As a nation is is difficult for America to come together with such a diverse group to work together towards being totally independent from other countries and nations. Although we are free from the British, they still have somewhat of a hold on us through trade. Once we are able to produce all of the goods that we need, all of our diverse population can come together and make British goods useless.

the American System-

"What does it mean to be a nation?"
to be nation you need three things; a strong leadership, a solid economy, and loyal citizens. the american system came when 2 of the 3 where threaten. the basis for the system was to keep the north and south of each others throuts(loyal citizens) and to futher fortify the ecnomy(solid economy). upon the north and south behalf, the american system made them economly dependent on each other, the south need supplies for the ariguculture, as the north need raw material. this eased tensions a little. Also, the Bank of the United States, or BUS, was reinstaled and new tranportantions was created, such as the steam boat.
all in all, i beleive the system help shape the economy that we revele in today. helping us became a better nation.

Bill of Rights

"How can a government build a unified nation out of a people with diverse interest and concerns?"
The bill of rights were a welcome addition to the consititution, since the original was only a guide book on how the run a goverment(mainly ours). Back to the "infant" years of America, many people, some important, others ordanary, had different ideas on how to run a new country and wanted to do so. Unfortantulay, some of them had the wrong idea on how to run one. canimagine trying to set up rules on a nation meant to be free? Luckly the Bill of Rights was added, set up laws for the three branches of the goverment, Electieve, Representive, and Judicial, to both follow and enforce.

Washington as First President

Washington had a very hard job, considering he was our very first president. He had to deal with all the problems of starting a new nation, which I don't see how anyone could handle a job like that with all the drama of the people and even the critics in Europe watching our every move. He was the one that started getting our nation together, the one that helped point us in the right direction(of course with a few bumps and holes in the road, but i think we are doing alright lol). Washington had a very hard and gruesome job, and I think he did the very best that he could as a first president of a confused and lost nation at that time and place. So i give him props for that.
The Nullification theroy will soon tear this new nation apart. The nullifacition theory gives an individual state the right to nullify a law. I can't belive that the two people that got this nation in such in uproar about nullification is Thomas Jefferson and James Madison when they declared that states had the right to nullify laws. Matters have only gotten worse since the government has impossed higher taxes on exported goods and passed the protective tariff which is now causing the south to lose money, and some southerners are just not paying. Yes the nullification could be a good thing but it can also cause problems. The nullification theory would make it harder to catch criminals because they could break the law in on state and then run to a state that does no recognize that law. The tension in this nation is growing and I fear the worst. Only time will tell if our nation can come together and be one.

Louisiana Purchase

It is the year 1803 and it's April. There was a treaty that was signed and given to the United States as Louisiana territory. It consisted of about two million square miles and crossed over the Mississippe River to the Rocky Mountains. We paid 15 million dollars for this to happen. We obtained the land by sending James Monroe and Robert Livingston to Paris, France to come to an final agreement on the purchase of some land near Mississippi. They came to either that would happen or free navigation on the Mississippi River. The French offered us the whole territory. Jefferson was very pleased with the treaty, allowing our nation to almost double in size.
Having said this, it is a great part of our history today. It allowed them to broaden their borders and call it theirs. Down the Mississippi River was around the Spanish territory. They could sail their vessels and ships down the river. They could come to a whole and create a more diverse purpose. There was a positive side of the river being in our use. It allowed us to sail over to Europe and inflict new ideas upon them.

Launching A New Nation

The Louisiana Purchase has just been made and I am so happy. My name is John and i am planning on moving to this new territory. Durning the past couple of years many things has happened like the Patriots overthrown the British rule, the Bill of Rights, and George Washington as our first president. However the world is changing. People from all over are coming to America looking for a new life but they dont understand that there isn't enough land to support their needs. Thats why with this new land i am looking forward to seeing a new government built with interest and concerns.

I hope that i can move to create a new life for myself and my family. I would like to get a big enough land that would fit my needs for farming and animal raising. If my plans go like i predict them to them this new purchase will bring nations together as one and unite us as brothers and sisters so that we can function to run a welled designed government.

The Cotton Gin

The cotton gin was invented by Eli Whitney. It was invented to help cotton crop owners clean the cotton faster, instead of just using their hands. It was a big help to the cotton industry, mainly because the cotton started coming in faster, which meant that they could sell it alot faster also...which meant more money for the south.

To be a cotton growing nation, meant having to do alot of work. The plantation owners had slaves to help work the fields, because if it wasnt for them the farm would not have been so plentiful for the farmer and his family, or anyone for that matter. The north didnt really see that point of view I don't think, I'm not saying that slavery was good but, if it wasnt for the slaves our nation probably wouldnt have grown as much as it did or as fast as it did.

Hello, my name is George Washington, the first president of these United states of America. After all of the battles i won, showing my integrity as a general, the citizens elected me as the president. Although the British may not like me, as a result of the revolution, the people of America do.
As a nation is is difficult for America to come together with such a diverse group to work together towards being totally independent from other countries and nations. Although we are free from the British, they still have somewhat of a hold on us through trade. Once we are able to produce all of the goods that we need, all of our diverse population can come together and make British goods useless.

What does it mean to be a nation?

The American Heritage Dictionary’s first definition of nation is “A relatively large group of people organized under a single, usually independent government; a country.” That sums up what people require to call themselves a nation, but for others to consider you a nation you need to be more than just a united group of people. For others to consider you a nation, you must have a functioning economy and have something to base that economy on. You also need a military, or allies who will serve as a military for you. Without that you are defenseless when even the first people who try to attack you come. Your government must be stable as well. A nation in a state of anarchy is not a nation because the people are no longer united under a single government. Finally, to be recognized as a nation, you need progress, if you don’t move forward, then you will not be able to defend yourself or keep up with the economic demand put on you.

In my opinion, there is more that is required to be a nation. A nation should not be a bunch of brutes, intellegent people are needed to rule. A nation also should have a reason to exist, something that makes them different from other countries, without this there is no reason for any country to exist in the first place. If any nation is exactly like another, then there should be no reason for those countries not to join together. But, in my opinion, what a country needs most of all is a sense of purpose. America had a sense of purpose in that we were paving a path of freedom. England had a purpose in that they were trying to gain as much power as possible. Even Nazi Germany had a purpose, they sought to spread there "perfect" race throughout the world, they sought revenge. No country can truly exist without a purpose.

The Incredible Cotton Gin!

This thing is just plain incredible. Praise Eli Whitney and his brilliant mind! I don't think that without this new invention, there would be any way to get me out of this slump I've been in. Since I am a bit short on slaves, the amount of work i have gotten from them is less than the neighboring farms, and people don't buy as much from me. But now that I have this, I have the edge on everyone else! No more will people look down on my family for being less productive than everyone else, now that i have this! I bet I can even start to afford more and more slaves, which will just send production through the roof.

Not only that, but I think this is just what we need to get the South out of the bad times that have been happening. By trading with Britain, we can start paying for the war debts, and other debts that we as a nation have accumulated. With this, we can produce cotton 10.. no 5o fold at the least! Britain and other nations will beat a path to our doorstep looking for the cotton that we can produce! This is definitely the miracle that me and the rest of the South have been looking forward to for a long long time. Without a doubt, this will be the greatest invention of the century, and Eli Whitney will go down as one of the greatest minds ever!

Louisiana Purchase

Hi, my name is Sacajawea. I am a slave wife of a canadian guide in Lewis and Clarks' expedition. I am on this expedition with some guys I met. The names of the guys are Lewis and Clark. I am a translator for them. I help Lewis and Clark with whatever they need help with. I'm going along with them on their famous expedition to the Pacific Ocean. They are leading 31 men on an expedition west across the continent.

I think that by us having such a diverse country, it makes us better. It also lets us view everyone's opinion about certain views that they have. The government can build a stronger nation by having many different people that have diverse views on beliefs, religion, and concerns for our country. The government might try to unify the nation but not everyone is going to get along. In the end, I think, that everyone will try to get along and try to unify the nation. It might be rough but I know that in a way everyone wants to do good and try not to have conflict.

The Cotton Gin

I am Eli Whitney, and I invented one of the most important machines of my time: the cotton gin. My invention is one of the things that made the South into the agricultural center of America in that it made it possible for the farmers to the short-fiber crop cotton for a larger profit. Cotton was in great demand in the North, as well as in Britain, at that time, so my invention was very popular. The cotton gin allowed poor farmers that did not own slaves to start up small farms between the Appalachian Mountains and the Mississippi river. Of course, the wealthier farmers came later and created very large plantations that were worked by slaves. By 1820, a “Cotton Kingdom” had been formed, which included Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi. I was given a patent for the cotton gin in 1794. Let me tell you how well it worked. Let’s say that a worker can only clean one pound of cotton per day. With my invention, he can clean as much as fifty pounds per day.

The cotton gin brought the North and South together in that the South was able to harvest more cotton than normal and in turn, the North would be able to buy more cotton from the South. Unfortunately, the increase in the production of cotton caused an increase in slaves in the South. The Northerners wouldn’t condone this because almost all of the Northern states had abolished slavery by 1804. To be a nation, every state, or section of the country, must be able to work with every other section of the country peacefully through all means, including trade and politics.

Louisiana Purchase

I can't believe that Andrew Jackson picked me to go on the exploration with Lewis and Clark. The trip was about two years long and we took a Native American named Sacajawea with us as a translator. A. Jackson sent us out to get a feel for the lay of the land. We were supposed to look for new kinds of plants, so maybe we could make a new medicine out of it. We looked for any kinds of animals that were new to us. We saw these big things that were like cows only furrier. I think the Native Americans called them "buffalo". We saw many Native American tribes that were settled on the land.
I believe that we can unify a nation with diverse people by letting them have sections of land on which to do their own thing. If there are many doctors who want to find and create new medicines we can let them go out over the Louisiana Purchase land and work together. I think that as a nation we must stand together trough the rough times and work together.

The Cotton Gin

My name is Mary and I am a slave. I am standing here with some other friends and we are thinking that we are tired of picking seeds from the cotton. It hurts our fingers and takes forever to do so. Our fingers tend to bleed almost all the time, it's a very hard job. We were so happy when we heard that Eli Whitney invented this amazing machine called the Cotton Gin. It allows us to separate the seeds from the cotton so much easier. It also takes us a lot less time to complete the task being asked to do.
Eli Whitney's invention brought us together in so many ways. It made our nation as a whole so much more effective. We are more efficent with our time. Having this new invention in our economy also allows us to gain more money. We can make more cotton at a faster pase. Which allows the demand of cotton go up. It helps us grow as a whole with one another.

Lousiana Purchase

The Lousiana Purchase was the largest and cheapest purchase of land our country has made. We purchase over 15 million dollars worth of land for about three cents an acre. We created a whole new side of our nation by making a small purchse. It was bought from France after the lost a war. France needed the money and sold us all of the land for cheap. When we first recieved the land we did not know how much land we really purchased.

I think that this purchase was a huge step for our country. We were still struggling as a nation to organize ourselves and to get along financially. The Lousiana purchase allowed us to expland our land, explore the area, and enlarge our nation. All of these were positive attributes that were added from a land purchase.

The Amazing Cotton Gin

My name is Betty, and I am an African American slave, I have very nice owners, unlike my other friends. But over the years I have picked cotton and then had to pick the seeds out by hand, it is very stressful and not fun. Their is good news to come! I have heard through the grapevine that their is a new invention called a cotton gin, invented by Eli Whitney. When Eli was 12, he made a violin, he was born to be good with tools. He went to Yale College. The cotton gin was a machine that seperates the seeds from raw cotton fibers. It is so easy and it took a little while to get used to but in the long run it saved a lot of time!
As a nation, the cotton gin has made our economy more effective. A nation means working together and helping others out. We have similar customs, origins, and we are organized under an independent government. Clearly we as slaves, are very glad that Eli Whitney invented the cottton gin to help us out.

Cotton Gin

In our day and age, the process of picking and cleaning cotton is a very tedious and time consuming job. Not only do you get your fingers all cut up from picking the cotton, but you have to spend hours on end picking the seeds out of it. If it weren't for Mr. Eli Whitney and his invention of the cotton gin, I don't know where we'd be. Since he brought the gin into existence, we have been able to produce an amount of cotton ten fold of what we could before. Because of that, i don't need as many laborers to help me which means more wealth for me.
As a nation, this invention has helped our economy immensely. The production of cotton has soared, meeting demand and reducing the amount of imports needed from other countries. Also, it could possibly mean more money for the government through taxes, since there is more being produced, there is more to tax. Therefore funding the federal government.

Launching a new Nation

I'm not a guy in charge, but a smart guy in the view. I listen and see my world in chaos. No one knows what to do to start our nation. You have the Federalist and the Democratic-Republic parties. The Federalist have a loose interpretation towards our constitution; therefore, how can our nation even be civilized? The Democratic-Republic have a strict interpretation towards the constitution. However, neither have knowledge of where to start to even begin our nation as one. Who is going to be our leader? That is the question. Are people going to vote for one or what is the plan? All we do is keep wondering.

To launch a new nation, you need to start at the beginning and break everything down. My family is my nation. We're all spread out through the world. We have the northerners, the far end southerners and even out of the US family. Coming together, we're forming our own nation as one. It is always a hard job, because we don't know where to start on how to get everyone together at one time. We all ask questions on whose house or even whose going to do what. Going out to eat isn't the option, so whose cooking what? Just like whose going to be the leader of the nation. To launch a new nation, you need a plan, just like you need a plan to come as one.

George Washington is president

Today on April 30, 1789 George Washington took his oath of office as President of this new nation. This is a joyful time for most. Washington was given the tittle of president from the states delegates after a unanimous vote. The delegates were meeting to make changes to the Constitution. Washington fought in the first battles of the French and Indian War. Washington was also one of Virgina's delegates for the first and second Continental Congress. I believe this is the greatest decision made since we decided to gain our independence from Britian.

One of George Washington's main focuses was on keeping nationlism high and prevnting sectionalism. To try and prevent sectinalism Washington would tour the Southern and New England states. Washington was doing everything that he could to unify the country. A government can build a unified nation by understanding the different cultures and respecting them. I think this is what George Washington

Federalists vs. Democrat-Republicans

The Federalists and the Democrat-Republicans are the country's two political parties. I just happen to know a lot about both of them. The beliefs of these parties are almost completely opposite, so that makes it a bit easier to explain. The Federalists are led by a guy named Alexander Hamilton, and the Democrat-Republicans are led by Thomas Jefferson. The Federalists believe in the following things: concentrating power in the federal government, a republic led by the well-educated elite, a loose interpretation of the Constitution, an economy based on shipping and manufacturing, and the payment of national and state debts. The Federalists on the other hand believe in these things: sharing power with the state and local governments, a democracy of virtuous farmers and tradespeople, a strict interpretation of the constitution, an economy based on farming, the payment of only the national debt and not the state debt. The Federalists’ supporters are the merchants, manufacturers, landowners, investors, lawyers, and clergy. The supporters of the Democrat-Republicans are the so called “plain people,” such as farmers and tradespeople. Oh yeah, and the Federalists believe that the National bank is constitutional while the Democrat-Republicans believe just the opposite.

Personally, I like the Democrat-Republicans because they look out for people like me. I am neither rich nor well educated. The only thing that I don’t like about the Democrat-Republicans is their very strict interpretation of the Constitution. The Federalists are completely correct in their belief that the Constitution is to be taken in many different ways according to the situation at hand. The only reason that I really like the Democrat-Republicans better is because they want to share governmental power with the state and local governments, and they also don’t want any one absolute ruler.

Washington as the first president.

Washington is our new president of the United States! George Washington was born in Virginia in 1732. George Washington had very little education in his lifetime, but he was great at mathmatics. He had a career as a planter and a soldier before his presidency. Washington also had little exprerience of being a leader.
One of Washingtons quotes was "I can only say that I have contributed towards the organization and administrtion of the government the best exertions of which a very fallible judgement was capable." He was very good at trinf to make everyone happy. George Washington has got to have alot of credit towards what this nation is today.

Balancing Nationalism and Sectionalism

To be a nation means that everyone has the same equal rights and no one is put in higher position than anyone else. It also means that the people of that nation all have to work together and make decisions that best fix their problems. When the Constitution was been created it was designed to help guide our nation. It was a way for our states to work and agree on situations by the book. Elections are another example of the way that a nation has to work together on in order to elect an good president. Federal courts and judges work together also to ensure that crimes are handled in the right manner. They help ensure that the people of the nation are giving their rights durning trials.

Today in school, most charter student's don't agree with the dress code stituation but we all follow it (the staff think that anyways:). Us students have learned how to just work with it because we realized that in the long run we have alot of benefits from it.
